Our Mission
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska expresses God´s love for all people by providing quality human care services that build and strengthen individual, family, and community life.
Our Vision
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska will be the agency of first choice by clients, professionals, funders and donors for behavioral health and human care services based upon the Agency’s high quality of service, fiscal integrity and faith-based mission and values.
For over 110 years, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska has served children and families. What began as orphanages in Fremont and Omaha has become a statewide outpouring of God´s love.
LFS’ programs and services are available regardless of age, race, religion or income.
87% of all donations go directly to client services.
Lutheran Family Services is:
- The only faith-based, not-for-profit, multi-service human care agency in Nebraska, spanning the state in over 30 locations from east to west. Operating from corporate offices in Omaha, LFS has moved forward in mission for over 110 years to express God’s love for all people by providing quality human care services that build and strengthen individual, family and community life.
- Community-based, which means the agency provides services in a non-residential setting. In this setting, the agency seeks to rebuild and restore individuals back into healthy relationships in families and community whenever possible.
- Accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services, a confirmation of the agency’s ongoing commitment to quality care. In 2003 alone, LFS provided a multiplicity of services to more than 35,000 people in 95% of Nebraska’s 93 counties - noteworthy especially in one of the most sparsely populated states in the country. Those accomplishments are all made possible by an executive leadership team with more than 60 years of experience with the agency, together with a team of 250 employees and 1,000 volunteers all committed to the Lutheran Family Services mission.
LFS demonstrates its mission through three broad service areas:
- Counseling and Addiction Services, including mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, gambling addiction treatment, sexual abuse/incest treatment, and specialized counseling for children, adolescents, adults and families;
- Adoption and Services for Children, providing infant, international and foster care adoption services and searches, foster care, pregnancy counseling, respite care, maternal health care and family support services; and
- Community Outreach Services, offering immigration services, asset-based neighborhood/community development, refugee resettlement, preventative education, youth mentoring programs, prison after-care, and disaster relief teams.
Our Future
- We are committed to remaining a statewide agency of the Lutheran church, serving all who seek help and hope.
- We will continue to faithfully respond to growing and changing individual, family and community needs.
- We will continue partnering with congregations and other community-based organizations to deliver quality human care services.
